IMD23 INTEGRATED MOTOR/ DRIVER With Pole Damping Technology (02/01/2006)

Carson City, NV—February 2006 —RMS Technologies, the Driving Force in Motion Control, has developed the new IMD23 integrated motor and driver. This NEMA 23, 1.8° bipolar, high torque motor is integrated with a 3 amp, microstepping driver.

The IMD23 operates from +15 to 48 VDC, and is capable of step resolutions ranging from ½ step to 256x microstepping. Depending on its stack size, the IMD23 is capable of producing up to 210 oz-in of holding torque while its unique design adds less than one inch to the overall length of the body when compared to a standard RMS NEMA 23 step motor. The IMD23 also features 4 damping modes for increased smooth motion and accuracy; optically isolated step, direction, and disable/enable inputs; and over-temperature protection.

The IMD23 also features Pole Damping Technology™ (PDT). PDT enhances a step motor’s performance by creating a more accurate and smooth motion profile. PDT optimizes the microstepping performance of the step motor by outputting the correct amount of run and hold current to the motor. Thus, each step will overcome the motor's natural tendency to want to “jump” towards the full step ON position.

The IMD23 joins the existing line of RMS integrated products:

IMC17- NEMA 17 integrated motor, controller, and driver
IMD17- NEMA 17 integrated motor and driver
